1932 |
Formation of the Society, making us one of the oldest in the country |
1945 |
Founder member of the Northern Association of Model Engineers, with 25 members |
1959 |
Start of building a 215m oval track at Springfield Park, Rochdale |
1960 |
Track completed and opened to the public |
1971 |
Permission granted by Rochdale Borough Council to raise the fee from 3d to 2p (present fee still a bargain at 50p) |
1972 |
Extension to the Hut at the Park to bring it up to the present size |
1991-1995 |
Major track extension alongside the Golf Course, to its present length of 604m (Click for Photos) |
1996 |
Affiliated to the Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies |
2001 |
Duchess of Buccleuch, a 31/2 inch gauge locomotive, donated to the Society by Margaret Sutcliffe, niece of David Woolfenden the builder of the engine. |
2002 |
Duchess of Buccleuch restoration is completed and the locomotive is now back in full steaming condition with the Society |
2003 |
The society acted as host for the Northern Association Narrow Gauge Locomotive Efficiency Competition on the 31st May & the 1st June in 2003 |
2005 |
Open Weekend, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the track extension alongside the Golf Course |
2007 |
The society had an extremely successful Open Day on the occasion of its 75th Anniversary on the 9th June 2007 |
2008 |
The society acted again as host for the Northern Association Narrow Gauge Locomotive Efficiency Competition for the 11th staging of the Competition on the 14th/15th June 2008 |
